We are very happy to announce that we will be partnering with Xterra Wetsuits for 2010.
They’ve offered to sponsor our club and gave us a great deal on their products.
LMU triathlon thanks Xterra Wetsuits and welcomes them as our newest sponsor.

Despite being a 1 men team for the whole season and that one men only racing twice for the collegiate races (lack of support). LMU beat rival Pepperdine and 2 other colleges in the overall team standings. LMU with 30 points, placed above Monterey Peninusla, UC Santa Cruz and Pepperdine, also LMU was only 10 points below San Marcos, and pretty close from Sacramento State and Sonoma State.
The LMU tri team hopes not to be a 1 men team next season, to be able to push for a mid table standing, please note that all of the mentioned colleges have the at least 5 people to take points, Gonzalo wasn’t beaten or was anywhere close from guys from most of the colleges in the standings.
Still with only 2 races, Gonzalo took the 70th position, he only raced in 2 out of 9 races that gave ranking points. A top 10 race @ USC and top 20 undergrad in Santa Barbara, where pro’s and amateurs collided, Gonzalo took the overall 27th place in SB, in a “bad bike split race” according to him. He missed the double points that Nationals held in Texas bring as well.
The forecast for the LMU tri team is promising, considering they weren’t the last on the table, competing with only 1 man, “imagine what we could do with 10″ says club president and capitan Gonzalo Puig. “I hope to race at least the minimum 5 races to get full points and be a top 10 overall next season, then later on I want to take it all for myself, I can’t promise LMU winning the team cup but I want to be WCCTC’s no1 eventually”
This afternoon we organized a little friendly race within our training. It was a 4.6 km race inside LMU.
Only 3 participants though, surprisingle we had more people helping and taking pics than racing, thanks a lot to those persons!!
Frank Higuera took the 1st place followed by Gonzalo by a mere 1 second! It was a mano a mano all the way with an uphill sprint finish.
Frank Higuera : 15min 52sec
Gonzalo Puig: 15min 53sec
Sean Murphy: DNF
We look forward making another of these and having more people racing!!!! Preparing for real races.

Last Sunday in Goleta (UCSB) the WCCTC held it’s 2009 conference champs.LMU had only 1 representant, the team’s president, Gonzalo Puig. Who didn;t perform as he and the others expected, finishing in the 27th place overall, between the 14th and 17th place in the undergraduate ranking (TBD). Whether he was the fastest freshman is still TBD also. Gonzalo traveled with the UCLA team who were the kind enough to help him where LMU didn’t, they didn’t perform as expected either but had 4 guys above Gonzalo, some by as close as less than 2 min and others 8 min away. His swim wasn’t as usual, his bike leg was bad, the only good thing was the run split, a fast 36 min 20 sec, that brought down his overall time to 2hours 15 min 38 sec (note the bike course was slightly shorter).
Team results aren’t official yet.
The WCCTC has a new and renewed website where the calendar is available : http://www.triathlon.ucla.edu/wcctc/index.php
Also, with only 1 race participation out of 4, cause he had a DNS at the Ironbruin, Gonzalo Puig ranks 39th, in the cumulative ranking. He only has the points of the USC triathlon.
Sun, Mar 29, UCSB WCCTC Conference Championships (Lion considering going if help is present)
In a horrible day for him, with a series of unfortunate events experienced. He made the top 10 in the USC Fight on Triathlon. Unofficial results.
The story is that he got to the race 10 min before the start, him and other 2 guys from San Diego State(Tritons) swam an extra 100mt in the swim losing the lead due to no buoys, having to wait for his chip, no time to do transition and of course a no cap swim in a 48 degree water. He took it, even though he considered abandoning and made a top 10 with solid, swim, bike and run.

Last Monday bikecology Marina del Rey and triathlon club member Gonzalo Puig, agreed on a sponsorship deal (between them). But Bikecology was kind enough to besides giving Gonzalo sponosorhip they’ll also throw a small discount to LMU triathlon members. Terms to be agreed in the store.
You might be looking at a small thing, but ervery dollar counts after/
Also bikecology is the proud title sponsor of Gonzalo Puig, the club’s current president.

As the title says is the deal of the decade, at least regarding sunglasses.
Please contact me if you are interested so I can get you in contact with Chris Lupo from Rudy Project.
Last Saturday, me and Frank attended the Race on the Base, a traditional race day in the city of Los Alamitos, it hosts a 5k/10k and a reverse triathlon.
Early that morning at exactly 9:06:10 Frank took the 1st place overall in the 10km race, in his hometown. Considering that it was a crowded race.
By 10 am, I proceeded to look for more glory for the club and started the reverse triathlon. In which I ended up 5th overall (800 participants) and took by 1 sec the 1st place in my age division that was no men under 19 this time, but men 18/24. Making it harder. In my way I outraced the guys of the Long Beach State tri team( but 1 he was 3rd) and a couple of guys from UC Berkley (current collegiate champions)
MORE TO COME, PICS AND OFFICIAL RESULTS.
